The congress was held from 8th to 12th of July at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa.

The 15th World Congress of Health Economics of the International Health Economics Association (iHEA) was held for the first time in Africa. Held every two years, the iHEA congress is the only global forum for health economists to share methodological advances in recent years, present recent research findings in health economics, and explore the implications of this research for health policy and practice.

Under the motto, “Diversity in health economics”, researchers, economic managers of health care providers and economists submitted more than 1,600 abstracts, of which only 10% were included in the scientific programme.

Biosistemak had the opportunity to present the work carried out in the European Community VOICE. Specifically, Borja García-Lorenzo, Health Economist at Biosistemak (formerly Kronikgune), presented one of the works framed in the VOICE community, Disentangling the Value Equation: A Step Forward in Value-Based Health Care (VBHC). The methodology proposed to combine Patient-Centred Outcomes in the context of breast cancer was presented, and how work has been done to provide a single figure for the numerator of the value equation introduced by Porter et al. to determine value-based medicine (VBHC).
