The event will be held in the Centenary Auditorium of the University of Deusto, in Bilbao, from 6 to 8 June 2024.

The International Neuroscience Congress, WOP Konekta, held in Bilbao will include plenary sessions, papers, round tables, guest lectures, parallel sessions and posters. Over three days, different areas of Neuroscience will be discussed, including the perspective of patients in all processes. Leading and recognised experts from various relevant entities related to neuroscience will share their knowledge and their work in this field.

Biosistemak will participate in a round table discussion on 8 June as part of the ‘Clinical Frontier – Advances in Therapies’ conference, together with the other presentations:

CLINICAL FRONTIER – Advances in therapies

  • Marc Engelen: Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). From axonal degeneration to clinical trials.
  • Nathalie Cartier: ‘Our experience in gene therapies in leukodystrophies’.
  • Verónica Cantarín and Inés Solís: ‘Our experience with intrathecal cell therapies with mesenchymal cells in infantile cerebral X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy’.
  • Sara García Gil Perotin: ‘Autologous transplantation of haematopoietic precursors in multiple sclerosis: our experience and new perspectives’.
  • Ane Fullaondo: ‘Value-based medicine’.
  • Pedro Carrascal: ‘The patient’s perspective in relation to the scientific and clinical process’.

Ane Fullaondo, Scientific Director of Biosistemak, will present the paradigm and new model that is spreading and being integrated into health systems, Value-Based Healthcare.  This model aims to guide health services in their reorganization towards providing care that focuses on value for the patient at the best cost. It is an innovative strategic framework that focuses on measuring health outcomes of value to patients, organizing care practice around clinical processes or conditions, and costs per patient throughout the process.

Value-based Healthcare is a strategic commitment of Osakidetza and this is reflected in the ‘Osakidetza Value Strategy’ published in 2023.  The strategy’s main objective is to move towards a value-based healthcare system based on integrated, person-centred care. Care which, based on scientific evidence, empowers the patient and enables progress in shared decision-making, based on the patient’s own clinical results, quality of life and expectations. The strategy presents value-based care as a key element to ensure the sustainability of high-quality healthcare systems in the future and to continuously drive the improvement of care processes.
