The event, in which Biosistemak participated, was held in Brussels on 10 September 2024.
The event aimed to facilitate discussion between representatives of national health ministries, public health agencies, NCD prevention focal points, experts from the JAPreventNCD and JACARDI Joint Actions, stakeholders and WHO representatives to strengthen leadership in the fight against NCDs. In addition to reviewing progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to NCDs, the Targets and the Monitoring Progress indicators, the perspectives of the Joint Action projects JA PreventNCD and JACARDI and the practices of EU Member States on NCD monitoring and prevention were shared during the day.
Biosistemak, that participates in the JACARDI project, represented the Basque Country and co-moderated the round table ‘Monitoring of NCD risk factors in JA PreventNCD and JACARDI’. The researcher and project manager, Yhasmine Hamu, together with Caroline Bollars, Senior Advisor of the WHO Representation Office to the European Union, were in charge of coordinating the round table where the two Joint Actions that are being carried out in Europe to address this challenge were presented. During this session, the two Joint Action projects JAPreventNCD and JACARDI were presented in greater depth by their respective coordinators, Dr. Linda Grandlund (Director of the Public Health and Prevention Division of the Norwegian Directorate General of Health) and Benedetta Armocida (Principal Investigator of the Department of Cardiovascular, Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases and Ageing of the Italian National Institute of Health), respectively. Subsequently, more detailed perspectives were given on the work packages defined in both Joint Actions foreseen in relation to cancer and other NCD surveillance.
