The course was held on 17th July 2024 at the Miramar Palace in Donostia – San Sebastian.This course, entitled ‘Economic evaluation to support decision-making in health’, was part of the programme of summer courses organised every year by the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, UPV-EHU.

The programme aimed to raise awareness of health economic evaluation in order to support health decision-making based on the criterion of efficiency for the sustainability of the health system, and to create a culture of evaluation among the participants as a fundamental axis for the sustainability of health systems. It also provided health professionals and managers with basic tools for understanding, designing, using and critically evaluating economic evaluation to promote and demand economic evaluation of health interventions in their field.

Organised by Biosistemak Institute, the course was attended by experts in the field from the Ministry of Health of Health of the Basque Government and Osakidetza, who highlighted the strategic need to advance health evaluation in the Basque Country under the principles of transparency and accountability.
