The event was held in the Municipal Auditorium of Ourense with the support and collaboration of the Galician Health Service (SERGAS) from 8 to 10 May 2024.

“Value and sustainability, commitments for the future” was the slogan chosen by the Signo Foundation for the 17th edition of this conference. Public health professionals, managers, researchers and professionals with other profiles met for three days to share experiences and projects that have contributed to the change towards new management models and the development of new ways of caring for people. This edition was framed in the pragmatic analysis of the advances made in the last ten years in the promotion of policies oriented towards Value-Based Health Care. The conference has served to share and learn about successful experiences and facilitate transfer to health systems on how to incorporate the vision and interests of citizens, professionals and those responsible for management in the care provided. Likewise, the new approach to sustainability was addressed, in addition to the traditional economic-financially oriented vision, which is based on the internalisation of the objectives of sustainable development and the 2030 agenda.

Borja García-Lorenzo, Health Economist at Boisistemak, and healthcare professionals from the OSI Enkarterri Ezkerraldea Cruces – Osakidetza participated in the workshop “The value equation as a tool for decision-making in healthcare”. The objective of the workshop was to present a work in progress by both organisations that seeks to design a proof of concept to jointly estimate Patient-Centred Outcomes (PCO) and costs in Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC), and to interpret the figure of the value equation suggested by Porter to put it at the service of the efficiency criteria from the VBHC perspective. This proof of concept should be scalable to other medical conditions.

In this context, the perspectives of clinicians and managers are crucial to incorporating the ASBV into health system financing decision-making. This is why the Workshop, with interactive dynamics with the audience, has served to share the work, as well as to receive feedback and constructive criticism to continue working along these lines.
